ESTIMATOR
Job description
Talos Steel Ltd. is seeking a skilled and motivated Estimator to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced estimator with a strong machining and fabrication background who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience estimating in a machining, fabrication, or related industrial environment
- Strong understanding of machining and fabrication processes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
- Proficiency with CAD software and estimating tools
- Solid cost estimating experience with a fabrication or machining background
- Experience preparing estimates, schedules, specifications, and related reports
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Job Duties
- Develop accurate labour hour strategies to ensure the most cost-effective approach to each project
- Prepare detailed cost estimates using drawings, specifications, and client requirements
- Work closely with the Sales department to develop efficient pricing strategies for RFQs and tenders
- Analyze client drawings, weld symbols, machining symbols, tolerances, and specifications to determine scope and cost
- Perform quantity takeoffs using CAD drawings and specifications
- Administer tender closing deadlines and ensure all tender submission procedures are met
- Liaise directly with clients, vendors, subcontractors, engineers, and suppliers via phone, email, and in person
- Maintain strong working relationships that support long-term business partnerships
- Upon project award, coordinate with procurement and production to transition work to the shop efficiently
- Collaborate closely with the Production Manager and Shop Foreman to support successful job execution
- Review estimates with the Sales team and identify potential delivery or scheduling challenges
- Ensure customer shipment dates are achievable based on production capacity and scope
